The Skull Index CIC is a collaborative project run entirely by volunteers working with private skull collectors, institutions, and museums to help catalog and gather data on various vertebrate species. Currently, over 400 specimens are in the database and growing weekly. Check out our discord server for updates on the project, or follow our socials!
Our goal at The Skull Index is to provide public access to educational resources and data on various vertebrate specimens for everyone. From researchers to students and artists, or people who are simply interested in bones or skulls, and want to look at photos or compare skulls against their collection for identification help!
The project is in its early stages, starting development in October 2023. We hope to continue to grow this website, our social media, and our community discord server. Future plans are in 2025 we plan to develop free in-person outreach education talks at various events like societies, charity fundraisers, and schools or small museums with both our UK and USA teams.
If you collect skulls and are interested in helping us reach our goals as a large public resource database of vertebrate specimens, consider becoming a collaborator! All we need are photos and measurements (other data is a bonus too!) of your skull specimens. Check out the Get Involved page and contact us today!
As a volunteer-led project, The Skull Index relies on the generosity of our supporters to continue running our site. Your donation helps keep the site online each month and can help us expand our collection, improve our educational resources, and promote the study of animal diversity around the world.
